Frank Bailey is a successfull owner/driver which is due to the economical and reliable ERF trucks he has used over the years.
In order to upgrade to 40 Tonne operations he had to find a Gardner powered ERF three axle tractor unit. He found one and this is his story.
Running classic trucks is not for the faint hearted, crawling underneath trucks in the middle of winter to do a service.
Frank spots a loose bracket that requires his attention.
You can travel with Frank on a number of different loads. Including wide loads and bulk potatoes.
We filmed this start up on a freezing morning to show you the Gardner firing up from cold. If you have ever driven one you will know what to expect.
There is also a visit to the old Gardner works where you can see their pump and injector repair shop. Then to a specialist Gardner repair facility to see a stripped down 8 cylinder engine.
G300 ERF handles 40 tonnes with ease on one of Franks regular runs.
Our mechanic on the injector change is Frank Hughes, he has many years of Gardner experience. Here he shows one of the pitted injectors.
All the new injectors are fitted.
With 8 cylinders there is a lot of pipe work, However it will soon be time to fire up the 300 again.
Old meets new during loading bulk potatoes
Frank Bailey is now operating a DAF 4 wheeler....Just as well we got the ERF on film when we did.
